World's First Hybrid Cruise Ship Sets Sail

Hurtigruten MS Roald Amundsen Begins Maiden Voyage

Norwegian cruise operator Hurtigruten has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable future by launching the world's first hybrid-powered cruise ship, the MS Roald Amundsen.

Built by Kleven Yards of Norway, the state-of-the-art vessel combines traditional diesel propulsion with battery packs and electric motors. This hybrid technology significantly reduces emissions and noise, making MS Roald Amundsen an environmentally friendly choice for adventure-seekers.

Hurtigruten's CEO, Daniel Skjeldam, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability in an exclusive interview with Forbes. "This ship is a game-changer for the cruise industry," he said. "We believe that hybrid technology is the future, and we're proud to be leading the way."

MS Roald Amundsen is the first of two hybrid ships Hurtigruten will add to its fleet over the next few years, underscoring the company's dedication to minimizing its environmental impact and pioneering sustainable cruising.
